Our new Pro Kit makes it easier than ever to get started with roll crimping the proper way. Whether you are handloading slugs, shortened shells, or if you are just interested in improving your crimp quality and versatility, the Pro Kit is for you. Our industry-leading Roll Crimpers and our one-of-a-kind Hull Vise tool make for the perfect combination.
Crimp depths often vary from load to load, even to a point where it is difficult to produce a proper fold crimp. This makes roll crimps ideal for shell lengths of almost any size. A compromised crimp can severely disrupt the entire combustion process, thus diminishing performance or even causing a blooper.
Performance: Shotshell load performance can vary shell to shell because components such as slugs, buckshot, and full-length field wads are not flexible platforms. Roll crimps adjust to the load (instead of the load adjusting to the crimp) and the ballistic results demonstrate more consistent & sustained combustion. Ultimately, a more consistent propellant burn yields more consistent performance.

Hull Vise:A BPI original exclusive
Made in USA and machined from aircraft-grade aluminum, this is a sturdy tool that holds shotshells in place with an adjustable quick-release locking mechanism. The Hull Vise gives you a helping third hand and stability. The Hull Vise allows you to perform detailed loading operations, such as roll crimping, with ease and precision. The large bore Hull Vise is factory set to load 10ga through 20ga.
Using the Hull Vise: Roll-crimped shotshells and specialized handloading procedures are easy to manage when the shells are upright and held in place. Like any great tool, the Hull Vise saves time and expensive components, makes loading easier, and helps you produce better shotshells.
The Easy Art of Roll Crimping:
Start with any uncrimped paper or plastic hull. New, uncrimped hulls are available in almost every type and length. Once-fired hulls can be cut down 1/4" and then roll crimped. For example, a 3" hull can be cut down to 2-3/4" in length and then roll crimped. Our Trim Doctor tool was designed for this procedure.
Prior to crimping, load the shell as you would any other shotshell load. We recommend using a Wooden Reloading Block during this process to keep loads organized and avoid spillage.
After dropping the shot and before crimping, place either an Overshot Card or Clear Overshot Disk on top of the pellets.
Secure the hull. Though it does not take much force to hold the shell, this procedure is made easy with the use of a Hull Vise.
Place the roll crimper on top of the hull. Our roll crimpers are designed to best work in a clockwise rotation. Start spinning the drill and apply very light pressure. When the edge becomes pliable through a combination of heat and pressure, roll the lip down until it makes contact with the overshot card wad. Curing: Your roll crimper will begin to cure as you use it more and more. Roll crimping will become faster and easier as your tool gains experience.
Cartridge manufacturer's tip: Many cartridge manufacturing companies use our roll crimper and some of these clients have told us that they like to put just a single drop of household oil (e.g., 3-in-1 Oil) on the surface of the roll crimper for every few hundred rounds.
Product Type: Shotshell loading tools Size (Hull Vise): 3" x 6" x 1-1/2" h. Usage: For clamping and holding shotshells for detailed handloading procedures and roll crimping. Made in USA

Another great set of tools from BPI
After years of dithering, I finally ordered the BPI roll crimper and hull vise kit. I should not have waited. The vise is very well made, with good fit and finish, and it works just great. And the roll crimper is shockingly easy to use. Even right out of the package, I was able to produce nice, smooth, roll crimps in four different brands of hulls that I had lying around.

great set of tools, but...
I was skeptical about the vise, but what a great tool! I am also very pleased with the crimper performance, but the instructions said, For best results, run clockwise. After reloading and crimping the first ten rounds I was so dizzy that I lost my grip on the press handle and fell, scattering bird shot all over the floor.
