LOAD OF THE WEEK- 08/28/2009   

Getting requests for lead target loads in the RIO 12-gauge 2.75” hull.   Some of the questions were for a comparison to a similar hull, such as the FIOCCHI.   Okay… here are few loads taken at trap speeds of 1200 FPS using everyone’s favorite wad, the VP05.   (Note:  different hulls and different primers.)          

7/8 ounce lead

Load# 90316-576T 12-gauge             

HULL:  FIOCCHI 12-gauge 2.75”   

PRIMER: FIO616 

PROPELLANT: Alliant  REDDOT 17.5 Grains

WAD:  VP05 (Mica dust wad.)

SHOT:  7/8 ounce (382 grains) Lead #8.   

BUFFER:  none  

FOLD CRIMP: 6-point 

Result: 8200 PSI 1200 FPS      

7/8 ounce lead

Load# 90817-1155 12-gauge  

HULL:  RIO 12-gauge 2.75”   

PRIMER: RIO209 

PROPELLANT: Alliant  REDDOT 18.0 Grains

WAD:  VP05 (Mica dust wad.)

SHOT:  7/8 ounce (382 grains) Lead #8.   

BUFFER:  none  

FOLD CRIMP: 6-point 

Result: 8000 PSI 1200 FPS

Load# 90316-586T 12-gauge             

HULL:  FIOCCHI 12-gauge 2.75”   

PRIMER: FIO616 

PROPELLANT: Alliant  REDDOT 18.0 Grains

WAD:  VP05 (Mica dust wad.)

SHOT:  1 ounce (437 grains) Lead #8.   

BUFFER:  none  

FOLD CRIMP: 6-point 

Result: 8700 PSI 1200 FPS     

Load# 90817-1183T 12-gauge           

HULL:  RIO 12-gauge 2.75”   

PRIMER: RIO209   

PROPELLANT: Alliant  REDDOT 18.8 Grains

WAD:  VP05 (Mica dust wad.)

SHOT:  1 ounce (437 grains) Lead #8.   

BUFFER:  none  

FOLD CRIMP: 6-point 

Result: 8400 PSI 1200 FPS
