The 22nd revision of The Status of Steel lists BPI's entire steel shot load library, over 400 loads from 10ga to .410 bore. Loading steel shot is easy with our step-by-step system. This manual dives right into the physics and fundamentals of steel shot ballistics. We tell you what works and why it works. We also explain the ballistic advantages gained by using specific high-performance components and reloading techniques.

The 22nd edition is greatly expanded with new components, like our CTPS Series wads. It also has new technical developments from our balllistic lab and many new loads for your favorite components.

Very outdated lots of loads with discontinued powder or hulls and primers that are hard to find.I shoot a lot of rounds per year so I need a load that is in a steady supply of ingredients.

We live in frustrating times and we understand your frustration. However, many of our customers still have Alliant and other powders in their personal inventories. They need the data in the manual. Therefore, what appears outdated to you, is very relevant to handloaders around the world. We talk to them every day. You may not presently have these components, and that can be a pain. Our goal is to help every reloader find a solution. Understand that our lab has focused on and continues to develop loads for as many available powders as possible. We've even take the lead to develop loads for Vectan powders and push for their availability in America. However, we cannot just flip a switch and make an immediate change. It is also a fact that powders from Alliant have NOT been discontinued. Their availability has been disrupted by military demand and nitrocellulose shortages. We're not sure which hulls and primers you are seeking, but our helpful staff is always here to assist you. Just give us a call! Our latest version of the Status of Steel has just been finalized as of February 2026. We've added many new loads, duplex loads, and even BSC copper shot data.

Need a replacement for Steel Powder 2/4/2025
Will there be an updated version of this if/when Alliant Steel does not come back to market? there sure are lots of loads that at the moment are not feasible.

The Alliant Steel data won't go away. Many of our customers have quite a bit of it in their stockpiles and bunkers. We also supply data for folks who might have components/powders that you do not have. We cannot flip a switch and just convert loads to another powder. Our lab is diligently working on new loads with available powders, but nothing is quite like Alliant Steel. Therefore, this requires many hours of work for every single load. We hope for better times after the wars end. We hope for greater availability of powders and we hope that Steel will return someday. In the meantime, we will be working on alternatives.
