Curmudgeon's Loading Tips:
TYPE: (taper = 1-1/8, straight = 1-1/8, 1-1/4) A 12 gauge lead target & small game wad. Think trap, skeet, sporting clays and game loads in 1-1/8 ounce in all hulls with this versatile mid to long-range wad. Offers a bit more room to accommodate intermediate burn-rate propellants (e.g., Green Dot, Solo-1000, American Select, E-3, International Clays, Universal Clays, PB).
We apply this wad to utility clays loads. We have found that it yields softer recoil with intermediate burn rate powders. Excellent consistency with these loads. Shotcup depth of .795" with four quick-opening petals. The gas seal is deep-set .730" diameter & .160" deep. Reloads well at 1-1/8 ounce lead in straight-wall (Fiocchi, MultiHull, Federal) hulls and tapered hulls (Win WAA-HS & Remington STS) target hulls.
The propellants utilized are some fast burn-rated powders, but most loads call for intermediate burn-rate propellants. Velocity ranges of 1100 FPS to 1300 FPS in 1-1/8 oz loads.
