3.5 Super Mag Federal Freight Train Copper Sabot Long Range Magnums | 4/3/2026 |
| These Federal Freight Train Copper Sabots are some of the most accurate Sabot Slugs I have tested to date using a custom 3.5 Super Magnum Thick Walled Heavy Contour 24 Fully Rifled Barrel. I loaded these Freight Train Copper Sabot Slugs in Brand New Fiocchi 3.5 Super Mag Olive Hulls, Fiocchi 616 MAGNUM Primers, 52.5 - 56 grains of Military Exclusive Proprietary Smokeless Powder, X12X Gas Seal, BPI Waxed .170 Nitro Card, X12X Gas Seal, BPI Waxed. 170 Nitro Card, 370 Grain Federal Freight Train Copper Sabot topped with a Nick Ross 4-Pin Roll Crimp. The very interesting part is the 52.5 Grain powder load averaged around 2000 FPS, the 56 Grain powder load averaged around 2130FPS. The sweet spot/node for accuracy and consistency with an SD Standard Deviation of 15 FPS in my particular barrel seems to 54 Grains of Exclusive Military Grade Proprietary Smokeless Powder for an average muzzle velocity of 2050 fps, best accuracy average for a 3-Shot group at 50 Yards was .60, 100 yards was a 1.30 , and at 175 yards 2.15. I couldnt believe a Sabot Slug could provide rifle like accuracy out to 175 yards. Even though it will perform out past 200 yards, I like to keep a minimum impact energy of 1000+ ft lbs. Expansion is massive coming in at .98 - 1.25 with deep penetration utilizing the IWBA 4-Layer Heavy Denim Calibrated 10% Organic Gelatin Test Protocol average penetration was from 14 -18 Inches, with a massive Temporary and Permanent Wound Cavity. Pressure Test Results: 52.5 Grain Powder Load 11,800 PSI, 54 Grain Powder Load 12,400 PSI, and 56 Grain Load 13,100 PSI well within a 12 Gauge 3.5 SuperMag safe SAAMI Limit of 14,000 PSI. I wouldnt hesitate to use these long range, super accurate, and extremely deadly Copper Sabot slugs on any antelope, deer, wild boar, or other thin skin bovine species. Recoil was a huge and welcomed surprise, while still not for the faint at heart they dont hurt as much as my Monster 3.5 Super Mag 481 Grain Federal Power Shok Sabot loads.
