Sphero Copper™ Shot #5 (4 lb./bottle)
Introducing Sphero Copper™ (SPC™) shot —revolutionizing the industry with a commitment to quality and product innovation; developed by our long-term partner Spherical Precision Inc., supplier to major shotshell manufacturers worldwide.
U.S. Patent 8,122,832 B1 | Other patent(s) pending.
You also asked for a spherical version of our CIC copper shot, and we listened. The difference starts with visibly superior shot forms. SPC starts with 99.9% CIC copper and is coated with benzotriazole (BTA) and UV thermoplastic fluorescent powder coating. SPC conforms to all the latest USFWS criteria for CIC copper shot.
Traditional Spherical Shape: This is the spherical version of our Ballistic Copper Shot™.
Premium Materials: SPC™ features CIC passivated copper at a density of 8.9g/cc. The shot has BTA coating along with UV thermoplastic fluorescent powder coating. CuBuff™ buffer improves pattern performance and also contains the same UV thermoplastic fluorescent powder coating and a specialized dry lubricant to assist in internal pellet adjustment. Reduced adhesion and interfacial resistance is vital for peak shotshell performance. CuBuff does not replace the UV Fluorescent Glow Powder on the shot, but CuBuff will enhance the glow of the shot if you, the handloader, choose to buffer your loads.
Compatibility: Copper is softer than steel and is suitable for older firearms and fixed chokes. Copper pellets are not prone to fragmentation. Each pellet is engineered and manufactured to precise tolerances and uniformity, setting a new production standard in the shot market.
Testing and Compliance: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) has approved corrosion-inhibited copper (CIC) shot as a non-toxic, legal shot type for hunting waterfowl and coots, which now includes options like steel, bismuth, tungsten, tin, and copper. The final rule was published in November 2017, concluding that this specific type of copper shot is unlikely to adversely affect fish, wildlife, or their habitats. Key Details of the USFWS Ruling: Corrosion-inhibited copper shot is approved under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and listed under 50 CFR 20.21(j). Environmental Impact: Data indicated that the coating on this shot effectively eliminates copper exposure in the environment and to waterfowl if ingested.
Identification: The approved shot must be distinguishable from lead in the field, through the use of fluorescent powder coatings. The field testing device for the copper shot with UV glow powder is presently listed as an Ultraviolet Light, which will make the fluorescent powder glow through a translucent hull. The latest guidance released by USFWS *Note: Due to new and updated guidance in 2026, UV Fluorescent Glow Powder is included in the shot inside every container of Copper Shot. Customers who previously purchased BSC shot may request a complimentary unit of UV Fluorescent Glow Powder to ship with their next order.
Compliance:1. Hunters should always check local regulations, as some states may have specific guidelines or restrictions concerning the use of CIC copper shot.
2. CIC Copper must be in translucent hulls with translucent wads. (Translucent means that light can pass through the hull and wad; it does not mean that wads and hulls need to be clear or transparent.)
3. Shotshells must be clearly marked “CIC Copper Shot.” (For a professional and finished look, take a look at our "CIC COPPER SHOT" shotshell stamps.)
4. CIC Copper shot must contain an identifiable amount of fluorescent glow UV powder coating for visual identification with a UV light. (A roll crimp with Clear Overshot Discs is also advisable.)
5. It is also advisable to carry an extra shell for possible examination while hunting.
Copper shot is available in these shot forms and sizes:
