Our Ballist-Steel Target Shot is a low-cost, non-toxic shot option designed for target loads and light field loads. Now available in #7 and #8, it offers a practical, affordable choice for shooters looking for reliable steel performance in compatible applications.

Technical: Ballist-Steel Target Shot is not as spherically precise as BPI’s Annealed Steel Shot and Plated Steel Shot, but it's been engineered for target-range pattern performance and for built for significant cost savings. The size variation of the latest tested lot is +/- 0.014”. Surface quality shows occasional dimpling. When we consider that these sizes of steel shot will be shot at relatively short range, the slight imperfections of the shot form lend themselves well to filling a pattern at standard target ranges.

Sizing:
     • #7 Average Diameter = .1009” +/- .013”
     • #7 Average Weight = 1.02 grains per pellet
     • #8 Average Diameter = .0931” +/- .014”
     • #8 Average Weight = 0.82 grains per pellet

Hardness: 290 HV is Vickers hardness. Roughly, that’s about:
     • DPH: essentially the same family of measurement, so about 290 DPH if expressed on a Vickers/diamond pyramid basis
     • Rockwell C: about 30–31 HRC
     • Rockwell B: roughly 95–100 HRB, depending on the exact material and conversion table
(Hardness conversions are approximate and depend on the alloy and test method, so use them as a close estimate, not an exact equivalence.)
